There are seasons when God feels loud. Prayers are answered quickly. Direction feels clear, and faith feels almost effortless. You sense movement, affirmation, and momentum all at once. In those seasons, obedience feels natural because clarity is abundant.
And then... There are seasons when God goes quiet. Not angry, not distant or withdrawn. Just quiet.
There is no fresh instruction, no clear next step, and no obvious confirmation. Life keeps moving forward, yet you find yourself wondering whether God is still speaking, or whether you somehow missed His voice.
This kind of silence unsettles believers more than hardship ever could. Because it is one thing to suffer with direction, and another thing entirely to move without explanation. Yet, the Bible shows us, again and again, that silence is not abandonment. Often, it is trust being formed beneath the surface.
The Silence That Tests Trust.
In 1 Samuel 3, God spoke, but Samuel did not immediately recognize His voice. The calling came before the understanding. Confusion came before clarity. Silence and repetition came before recognition.
In the story of Job, heaven remained silent while Job lost everything. There were no answers, no explanations, no divine clarifications. Only endurance. And yet, God was present the entire time.
Even Jesus lived quietly for years before ministry began. Thirsty years of obscurity. Thirsty years without public miracles. Thirty years without applause. Then suddenly, there was movement (Luke 3:23).
Biblically speaking, silence is rarely a punishment; more often, it is preparation.
When Faith Is No Longer Fueled by Emotion.
Many believers are taught to move only when they "feel led". While sensitivity to God is important, Scripture reveals a deeper layer of maturity. Obedience that does not rely on emotion.
"For we walk by faith, not by sight." 2 Corinthians 5:7
There comes a season when faith must be anchored in conviction, not sensation. when obedience is no longer energized by excitement, but sustained by commitment.
This is where discipline replaces emotional clarity. Where consistency replaces reassurance. Where obedience becomes quieter, but deeper.
Faith that functions only when God speaks audibly is fragile. Faith that continues when God is quiet is rooted.
Abraham and The Courage to Move Without a Map.
When God called Abraham, He did not give him full instructions.
"Go from your country, your people and your father's household to the land I will show you" Genesis 12:1.
Not I have shown you, but I will show you.
Abraham was asked to move with incomplete information. To trust that revelation would meet obedience along the way. To walk forward without needing the entire picture upfront.
Some of God's instructions are not detailed, they are directional.
Sometimes, God speaks once and expects trust to carry the rest.
Silence Does Not Cancel Presence.
One of the most dangerous conclusions believers draw is that silence means distance. I myself have been guilty of this from time to time.
But the Bible tells us otherwise.
"The Lord is near the brokenhearted and saves the crushed in spirit" Psalm 34:18
God's nearness is not measured by how often He speaks. His presence is not dependent on constant instruction. Silence often comes when God is teaching us to listen differently.
Not just for commands, but for character building. Not just for direction, but for depth.
Keeping Movement Holy in Quiet Seasons.
Continuing to move when God is quiet does not mean reckless decisions. It means choosing faithfulness over panic.
It looks like remaining anchored in Scripture, walking in integrity even when unseen. Praying without rushing outcomes and choosing wisdom over impulse.
"Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding,; in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight" Proverbs 3:5-7
Submission is not inactivity. It is movement without anxiety.
What Silence Is Often Building.
Quiet seasons develop spiritual muscles that noisy seasons never can.
They build discernment, stability, endurance and most of all patience.
"Be still before the Lord and wait patiently for Him" Psalm 37:7
Stillness here does not mean stagnation. It means refusing to rush emotionally while continuing faithfully.
There is a confidence that does not announce itself. It does not rush to prove calling. It does not fight for validation or panic when not seen. It simply keeps moving, prayerfully, honestly and steadily.
And when god finally speaks again, you realize the silence was not empty. It was forming your core.
So, if you are in a season right now that feels quiet, I want you to know that you are not forgotten. You are not late and you are not disobedient for continuing faithfully.
Sometime, the loudest instruction God gives is trust, and continuing to move without noise is the deepest act of faith you will ever offer.💕
With love,
Margaret (Kaego).
